Atlanta is the perfect place for this, with an amazing variety of local breweries, beer gardens, and outdoor venues. In the past decade, Atlanta has seen a huge uprise in the number of breweries and beer venues opening and is quickly becoming more and more influential in the world of beer. In fact, twenty-two new breweries opened in Georgia in 2021 alone. Whether you are a craft beer snob or just looking for a good time, we have compiled a list of some of our top picks of places you need to check out for a perfect summer in the city.
Westside: Westside Motor Lounge
Located on property that was previously home to three vacant auto-repair shops, Westside Motor Lounge has a fantastic beer garden housed in their spacious three-acre complex. They have fourteen of the South’s finest beers on draft, as well as even more packaged options. They usually have live music all throughout the weekend: anything from DJs to country music singers. Another perk of this space is that they are a dog-friendly establishment. As long as your dog is leashed and amicable, they are welcome to join you in your weekend festivities. Their campus also includes a restaurant and bar, cocktail lounge, listening room, event space, game room, and a 1/2 acre courtyard featuring a music stage, shuffleboard courts, cabanas, fire pits and a food truck. With all of these options, everyone in your party is sure to enjoy themselves at Westside Motor Lounge.
Downtown: Atlanta Brewing Company
Full of fun weekly events like Team Trivia and a Tres Jardines Food Truck, Atlanta Brewing Company is sure to keep you entertained. Established in 1993, they were Georgia’s first craft brewery, and they have exciting news: they are moving to a new location! They allow pets in both their patio AND their taproom. They even host “Dog Day Saturdays” where you can receive $1 off your beer if you bring your furry friend along. Their new location in Underground Atlanta is opening soon.
Bolton: Scofflaw Brewing
As one of the fastest-growing craft breweries in the entire United States, Scofflaw Brewing has been critically acclaimed on a worldwide level. Rate Beer nominated them as “One of the Top 10 New Breweries in the World.” They are famous for their IPAs, but have other beverage options as well. Their taproom is located in an industrial warehouse in the Bolton neighborhood of northwest Atlanta. It has plenty of parking and a large, welcoming indoor/outdoor seating space. Additionally, Scofflaw Brewing is relatively family-friendly. They even occasionally host kid-friendly events like petting zoos.
Old Fourth Ward: Georgia Beer Garden
With 24 different beers on tap and some tasty house cocktails, you are sure to find the perfect cold drink at Georgia Beer Garden this summer. Their quirky southern atmosphere is housed in a former peanut butter factory and is known to be very spacious. They are also known for their friendly staff, delicious food, and fun downstairs bar.
East Side: Hippin’ Hops Brewery
Hippin’ Hops Brewery and Oyster Bar opened in 2020 and boasts a great seafood selection alongside its brewhouse. Their head chef even appeared as a contestant on “Beat Bobby Flay” on Food Network. Additionally, Hippin’ Hops was also Georgia’s first black-owned brewery. Their mouth-watering menu includes items like Cajun Shrimp Deviled Eggs and Smoked Gouda Oysters. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and their beer garden features corn hole and Jenga. Their reviews are stellar, so you are sure to have a fantastic time at Hippin’ Hops.
Midtown: The Tap on Ponce
Looking to drink and shop at the same time? Visit The Tap On Ponce. Conveniently located in the Ponce City Market Food Hall, drinks from The Tap are allowed to be taken around the food hall, common areas, and most stores in the Ponce City Market Area.
